The Battle for “America’s Team” is monumental as two of the most storied NFL Franchise, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys play in must win game. The Battle will determine the winner’s ability to perform when it counts. Well, now is the time and the Battle begins on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at 4:15pm ET at Jerry’s World.
The Dallas Cowboys (7-6) and Pittsburgh Steelers (7-6) are both fighting for a wild card berth – meaning they are in a a MUST win situation. The team that loses The Battle for America’s Team is going to need a miracle at the ballot box to win election into the 201 NFL Playoffs. On a positive note for the Dallas Cowboys, return 2nd year All-Pro Running Back Demarco Murray back from injury, a team most certainly feeling the pressure of the now accepted December meltdown months. With Demarco Murrary back, the Cowboys believe they have everything in place to make a run in the NFL. Murray was tied for third among rookie players for rushing touchdowns with 2. To me, Murray is the KEY to the Cowboys and could be the guy that propels the long overdue Cowboys into a late stretch run that only Coach Jason ‘Red Juice’ Garrett has smarts to navigate.
DeMarco Murray also was 14th in receptions among all rookie players and 2nd among rookie running backs with 26 receptions. He was also 4th in receiving yards among rookie running backs with 183. Remember he only started 7 games in 2012.
Murray with 7 starts in 12 games was tied for the second highest average per carry for a running back with 80 or more carries among all NFL running backs, trailing only Darren Sproles’ 6.9 yards per carry on 63 attempts. Murray’s 897 rushing yards ranked 22nd among all NFL running backs and 9th in the NFC. The Cowboys went 5-0 for the season when Murray received 20+ touches in the game and 2-5 when he did not. In the five games where Murray got 20 or more touches, starting quarterback Tony Romo averaged a passer rating of 112.10, 246.6 yards per game, along with 12 combined touchdown passes with 2 interceptions and a 66.99% pass completion rate.
Now, lets turn to the Pittsburgh Steelers and in the coming days, we’ll dissect the Cowboys more in depth.
Did you know?
The Pittsburgh Steelers, the Men and Women in Black and Gold now hold all NFL records for Regular Season Wins, Playoff Wins, Conference Championships and Super Bowls. In addition, they also have the NFL’s most popular player. A recent Nielsen E-Poll market research report concluded that the NFL’s most popular player was, Troy Polamalu, the Playmaker Icon. At the time the research report was published, Troy Polamalu had played in TWO games.
The ‘Steel Warrior‘ leads by example and his teammates and Organization follow. Just his mere presence on the field provides Veteran Leadership with instinctual quality rarely if ever seen by a NFL Defense. TP is one of the smartest players to ever lace up the cleats on Sunday and his teammates in true Black & Gold Fashion follow their leader. This team is built on Trust, Loyalty, Respect and Hard Work. America’s defined is defined as the values that inspire us and why we brought up this whole issue of America’s Team. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want America’s Team or America to be run by a dictator with complete and absolute power. On that basis alone, I think the Cowboys must think of a new Marketing Strategy and branding campaign – especially with their performances and expectations over the last 10 years.
On the contrary, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in their 80th Season with 76 under the Rooney Family, a Legendary Family in it’s own right that learned the hard way early on, like most Americans, like you and me, who want to live the American Dream. The Legendary family along they way turned an NFL Franchise and team into a family. The family grew and gave birth to SteelerNation and it’s roots are throughout ALL parts of United States and ALL the way down into the heart of Mexico.

Considering they are a just a few thousand miles from the border, I would say that’s a powerful nation and its roots spread and deepen every day. To experience the essence of the Steelers just go out as a fan or family member and watch the Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp at Saint Vincent’s College and soak in the Sun in Steeler Nation. You’ll see why America’s Team can’t be stopped.
The organization defines what football means to a community and what a community means to the football team. The family shares the dedication and friendliness of the fans by being one of them….each family member shares a powerful and growing blood type, Black and Gold.
By the way, Troy Polamalu along with his friends at Thrift Benefits decided to give everyone around the country a chance to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers game, whether Home or Away, without having to worry about tickets, money and bills. It sure would be nice to see the Pittsburgh Steelers play at Jerry’s World, half filled with Black and Gold.
